Boosting designer sales through the social approach….


Don’t avoid social media because you feel it may be a waste of time. These websites are growing in influence everyday. The five most important are Facebook, MySpace LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter. Some simple approaches on these sites could dramatically improve your exposure to create more business.

Facebook has more than 250-million registered users. With two-thirds past college age, this is the fastest-growing demographic of adults over 35. By creating a profile you can link to your ASID Chapter Profile. Update your “friends”, create fan pages and communicate directly with customers and prospects.

MySpace is much like Facebook with one very distinct advantage, MySpace rank in search-engine results, which can link from MySpace to your ASID Chapter Profile.

LinkedIn is more “business” than social. While you can only post individual profiles, you can join groups of similar interests, creating a larger arena of business contacts, say homebuilders or remodel/home improvement.

YouTube is the largest video-sharing site on the web. You can upload your own videos creating “viral” publicity, though you will need to make it interesting, possibly instructional or a “before and after” production, showcasing your services, products and designs.

Twitter is what “micro-blogging” is all about. It allows just 140 characters at a time, but there is no limit to the number of times you can post in a day. If you deal with Industry Partners that may have specials or promotional items, then this could be the format.

So does social media work? YES! Once you have posted you ASID Profile, updating any of the sites takes just minutes. But remember post items that are informational VS promotional. Soon you will see great sales, prospects and marketing opportunities.
